SET THE STANDARD #15: SEAN BELL
"Movement is everything to me. I’m a better person when I move. It’s as simple as that."
In this world, there are stories that inspire, challenge, and uplift us. Stories of individuals pushing the limits of human capability, not just for personal glory, but to make a tangible difference in the lives of others. Sean Bell's journey is one such story—a narrative of determination, resilience, and unwavering commitment to a cause larger than himself.
In 2015, Dave Alley re-wrote history becoming the fastest person to run around Australia, and Sean Bell is attempting to break that record, which means he will need to run 13,383 km in less than 169 days, 15 hours, and 31 minutes. That is an average of 79.2km per day, for a period of 5.5 months. A feat that seems almost superhuman. Yet, for Sean Bell, it's not just about breaking records; it's about breaking barriers and creating opportunities for those in need.
Sean's motivation stems from a deeply personal experience. The untimely passing of his football teammate at the age of 18 took a huge impact on him, reminding him of how fragile life is and the importance of seizing every moment. This realisation fueled Sean's passion for chasing his dreams and living life to the fullest.
"For me, when I'm getting out the door and putting my runners on, it's about more than myself."
Movement, he believes, is everything—it's where he thrives, where he discovers his true self, and where he finds solace amidst life's challenges. Running isn't just a physical activity for Sean; it's a journey of self-discovery and growth.
"It's where I get to know myself at the deepest level and it's a place where I can explore the barriers in my mind and see what I'm capable of."
Sean's endeavour goes beyond personal achievement; it's a mission to make a difference. Partnering with Make-A-Wish Australia, Sean is running to fulfill the dreams of children battling critical illnesses.
"Our dreams give us hope for the future, especially during tough times."
By dedicating his kilometres to this noble cause, Sean is spreading joy and inspiration to those who need it most. As Sean embarks on this monumental journey, he's not just aiming to break records; he's aiming to break barriers of doubt and disbelief.
"If I can push myself with running, then how far can I actually go?"
"I want to be remembered as someone who strived to make a difference through pushing my body and mind, and I think people will see that even though I'm a runner, I've built myself into this runner."
